Kidney stones are hard masses of calcium oxalate crystals that form in the ureter. They are extremely painful. The stones can be so small sometimes so as to just pass through the ureter and out the system without any pain or discomfort. But some of them can grow so large as to block the greeters. These are the ones that cause the severe pain. There are a few symptoms and signs that you can look for that will tell you whether or not you have any stones.
