Entry Of Foreign Banks In Ghana

With globalization, advancement in Information Technology (IT) and financial liberalization, many countries are experiencing an increasingly penetration of foreign banks into their banking industry. On this matter, Ghana is not an exception. The banking system has increased in size from 3 banks in 1950s to 26 banks by the year 2010. In the 50s, three banks of which two were foreign banks and a local bank dominated the banking sectors. By the year 2010, the banking sector is competitively dominated by 26 banks of which 12 banks are local/domestic banks and 14 banks are foreign banks.
